As a former scientist with a background in biology, my eye is often drawn to the little details. Whether inspired by the natural world or the man-made, my photographs tend to focus on a fraction of the whole, often capturing something likely overlooked by the casual observer. Some of my photographs depict literal reality; others are more abstract and dreamlike. I allow each subject to inform my senses and help shape my vision of the final image. My approach to creating a photograph is largely intuitive, more spontaneous than deliberate. I do not set out to produce a specific image or series, rather, I approach each photographic experience with an open mind, alert to any subtle shift in light, texture, colour or form that may catch my eye. I love experimenting with new techniques and wholeheartedly welcome serendipity. Eventually, a pattern emerges and evolves into a new direction for my work. |
